Legalization fee: See the list of consular fees
As of 14th September 2020, the Embassy will legalize documents electronically without a sticker affixed to the original document. Documents must still be submitted in hard copy. However, they will be signed electronically and sent by e-mail. With a reference number provided by the embassy, the legalized document can be accessed on this website: legalweb.diplomatie.be
Official documents issued in one country are not always valid in another. Jordanian and Iraqi documents, intended for the Belgian authorities, must always be legalized so that Belgian authorities recognize them with full legal effect.
Legalization certifies the origin of a document. It is an official confirmation of the veracity of the signature, stamp or seal of the civil servant who signed the document.
Please note that documents issued in Arabic must be translated into English or one of the national languages (French/Dutch/German). The Embassy does not legalize originals without the translation or vice-versa.
Documents needed to update your Belgian national registry file (e.g. nationality, marital status, …) must be translated into the language used by the municipality in which the documents will to be submitted or into one the national languages if they will be presented at our consulate.

Concretely, this means that any request for legalization of a JORDANIAN civil status document (already legalized by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) will have to be submitted to TLScontact. TLScontact will take care of the reception and retrieval of the documents, the collection of the service fees (5 EUR per document, destined to TLScontact) as well as the legalization fees (20 EUR per document, destined to the Embassy) and the transmission of the documents to the Embassy.
The Embassy remains solely responsible for the legalization as such. The legalized documents will be returned to TLS Contact who will contact the applicants for collection.
The fees are payable to TLS Contact, at the exchange rate decided by the FPS Foreign Affairs and communicated to TLScontact. Please note that the original document and its translation count as two documents.
Do you have to bring the document yourself? No, anyone can bring your document.

Legalization of your signature (Private deed)
Under certain conditions, the consular department can legalize your signature. Attention, the document on which the legalization will be affixed must absolutely be signed at the embassy, before the consular agent! You will therefore take care NOT to sign the document in advance.
For legalization of signature, you must make an e-Appointment in advance and submit the following documents:
- The unsigned document
- A valid identity document (passport or Identity card)
- Consular fees
Please note: the legalization authenticates the signature, but in no way confirms the content of the document.
Please note that the Belgian Embassy does not legalize Belgian documents. Belgian documents for use in Jordan and Iraq must be legalized by the FPS Foreign Affairs and the Jordanian/Iraqi Embassy in Brussels. For more information on the legalization of documents, please visit the FPS website
